The Armitt: Museum, Gallery, Library are looking for friendly and enthusiastic front of house volunteers.
In this role you will be the warm and inviting face to The Armitt as visitors enter the site. This means you’ll enjoy interacting and engaging with all audiences.
Principle tasks include:
- Manning the ticket desk and shop
- Delivering key visitor information
- Sharing information about the history of The Armitt, Ambleside and the collections
- Promoting upcoming events
This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who enjoy meeting new people and want to learn more about The Armitt and share that knowledge with others. Key skills that will be developed from this role are communication, problem solving and organisation.

This opportunity is open to all. Full training will be provided.
Dates and availability
This is a regular weekly volunteering opportunity, with the option of a morning or afternoon session. We can work flexibly with you to determine what days would be of interest to you.
About the organisation
Full of interesting and unusual objects, The Armitt is a Museum, Gallery & Library that shares the history and heritage of Ambleside and its people. Founded by Mary Louisa Armitt in 1912, the Armitt is home to a varied collection of books, manuscripts, water-colours and archaeological remains, including Beatrix Potter’s fungi watercolours, Roman remains from the Ambleside fort, and Kurt Schwitters paintings.
