Lakeland Arts

History as storytelling

Exploring exciting ways to link art, technology, history and storytelling both within an art gallery environment and back in the classroom. Bring creativity back to the centre of learning.

Lakeland Arts are really pleased to be able to present an exciting training session for the teaching staff of local Schools. This would be useful for subject leaders in Art, Technology, ICT, History and English, as well as for classroom teachers who would like their teaching to be more cross-curricular.

Memorable maths in a museum

This session at Blackwell supports teachers in planning maths activities in a cultural venue. Making maths more cross-curricular and meaningful. We will consider activities to support number, geometry, measurement, problem solving and mathematical thinking using a very special building and the collection housed within.

Tullie House

Getting to grips with history

This workshop is most suitable for Foundation stage and Key stage 1 children. Using handling objects and being inspired by the collection at Tullie House we will consider activities that support young children’s developing historical understanding. Helping them make sense of the world around them, develop simple chronology skills and begin to understand how things change over time.

Bring planning for a history session that works really well and one that you’d like to improve.

Developing deep thinkers

Taking children into an art gallery or museum often gives you a real understanding of their sometimes hidden knowledge and talents. We aim to show you how to support deeper thinking in your children by focusing on developing the skills of critical thinking and creativity using art and historical objects. Tullie House are hosting a Confucius exhibition and have a Confucius classroom on site, we will take the opportunity to learn in the exhibition.

Playing with poetry

‘Playing’ with poetry because good learning should be; Active and practical, visual, auditory and kinaesthetic, memorable and fun.

During this session you will understand and enjoy a variety of poetry, you will gain some tools to teach it and ideas of how to deliver it in class. By the end of the session you will leave enthusiastically, confidently and with a poetry toolbox!

Being Creative about your writing

This session focuses on developing children’s writing in a creative way; using a sense of place, storytelling activities and cross-curricular opportunities to bring a sense of fun as well as a sense of purpose to writing activities.
